College Football Update: Florida tired of being in top five

Just a couple of days after top ranked USC loses, Florida decides that they want to be as cool as the kids in LA and lose a tough game to a conference opponent.

The Gators lost to Ole Miss, 31-30, after a Jonathan Phillips extra point was blocked with less than a minute to go in the game.

The Rebels were down 17-7 at halftime, but managed to outscore the Gators in the second half 24-13.

Jevan Snead had two touchdown passes and 185 yards in the air for the Rebels. Snead threw a 86-yard touchdown pass to Shay Hodge in the fourth quarter to put the Rebels ahead for good.

Gators quarterback Tim Tebow had 319 yards passing with only one touchdown pass.

The loss will hurt the Gators in the SEC and could knock them out of the top 10 when the polls come out next week.

College Football Update: The gravy train derails for East Carolina

Just like that, the undefeated season ends for East Carolina. The Pirates were knocked off this afternoon by the NC State Wolfpack in overtime. NC State won the game 30-24.

Andre Brown scored the game winning touchdown in the first overtime when he ran a touchdown in from 10 yards. Brown had 75 yards rushing on the day.

Russell Wilson had a strong day for the Wolfpack. He completed 21-of-31 for 209 yards and three touchdowns.

This game will no doubt hurt East Carolina's chances at making a BCS bowl game. It is by far a huge dent to their plans.

College Football Update: Kansas and South Florida battle it out in a classic

Considering this was suppose to be another boring Friday night, this game turned out to be very entertaining. Kansas and South Florida battled it out for all four quarters. In the end, it was a 43 yard field goal as time expired made the difference in the game as USF upset Kansas 37-34.

This is a huge win for the no.-19 ranked Bulls. They were down to the Jayhawks 20-10 at halftime. The Bulls came out in the third quarter and scored 17 points, adding another 7 in the fourth quarter.

The Jayhawks found themselves down 34-20 in the fourth, but they would score two touchdowns to tie up the game. Todd Reesing threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. He threw three in the game.

Maikon Bonani hit the game winning field goal for the Bulls as time expired.

Reesing along with three touchdown passes had 383 yards with one interception. Matt Groethe completed 32-of-45 for 333 yards and two touchdowns.

College Football Update: Who is this East Carolina team and why are they beating ranked teams?

In case you haven't heard, East Carolina knocked off another top 25 team for a second straight week. This week, it was West Virginia that felt the wrath of Skip Holtz and his band of mega awesome Pirates.

The Pirates made light work of the no.-8 ranked Mountaineers, giving up only three points. While the Mountaineers dominated the running game, their passing game was non-existent. Pat White had five touchdowns a week ago. This week he had zero.

Last week, the Pirates knocked off Virginia Tech, then no.-17 ranked. The Mountaineers are the last ranked team that the Pirates will face this season. That could change, but come on, do you really think NC State will get into the top 25?

For those of you who don't know where East Carolina, or ECU is. So I took the time to look up the site on Wikipedia. This public university is located in Greenville, N.C. ECU has almost 26,000 students enrolled. The university ranks among the best in the country, receiving acclamations from the Princeton Review and the US News and World Report.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard attended East Carolina. Other notable alumni include actress Sandra Bullock, WWE chairman Vince McMahon and actress Emily Procter.

College Football Update: Ohio State survives early scare

Just when you thought the Ohio State Buckeyes were going to fall flat on their face early in this season, they strike back late and survive to prepare for a trip to sunny California.

Ohio State struggled in their game with Ohio. They were down to Ohio 7-6 at the half and were down 14-6 about midway through the third quarter. OSU had to go on without their star running back, Beanie Wells.

OSU scored 20 unanswered points in the third and fourth quarter, including a 69-yard punt return by Ray Small, to win the game over Ohio 26-14.

Todd Boeckman struggled in the game, completing 16-of-26 for 111 yards and no touchdowns and interceptions. Daniel Herron rushed the ball 12 times for 60 yards for OSU.

OSU travels to Los Angeles next week to face the USC Trojans. The Buckeyes hope to have Wells back in time, because they will certainly need him against that tough Trojans defense.

College Football Update: Rodriguez loses in coaching debut for Michigan

For a second straight season, the Michigan Wolverines lost their first game of the season at home. Utah defeated Michigan 25-23. This of course marks the first loss for Rich Rodriguez as the Michigan head coach.

The Wolverines were down 25-10 in the fourth quarter when they scored two touchdowns. The first came when Steven Threet threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Junior Hemingway. The second one came just a few minutes later when Sam McGuffie scored on a three-yard run.

The Wolverines missed the two point conversion to tie the game. Ultimately, the miss for two made the difference in the game and now Michigan is 0-1.

Both teams struggled on the offensive side of the ball, not even reaching 400 total yards. The game ultimately belonged to Utah kicker Louie Sakoda, who kicked four field goals, including a 53-yarder.

Both Nick Sheridan and Steven Threet played for Michigan. Sheridan went 10-for-18 with 96 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Threet had one touchdown pass as well.

Michigan plays Miami of Ohio next week.

College Football Update: Les Miles doesn't want to be coach of the 2008 version of Michigan

Happy Saturday everybody! I hope you are as excited as I am about the return of college football. If you're not, then you are just crazy. (NOTE: You are not literally crazy)

LSU 41 - Appalachian State 13- With Hurricane Gustav preparing for a rendezvous with the Gulf Coast, it was all about the Tigers staying on track and not losing to the Mountaineers. Charles Scott had a huge day for LSU, carrying the ball 16 times for 160 yards. App. State did not have the luck they had against Michigan last year. The Mountaineers rushed for only 51 yards on the afternoon. With Troy and North Texas on the schedule, the Tigers should be 3-0 by the time they travel to Auburn.

East Carolina upsets Virginia Tech, 27-22- The Pirates scored two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter against the Hokies to win. The Hokies had jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but the Pirates fought their way back into the game.

Ohio State blows out Youngstown State, 43-0- Jim Tressel and his Buckeyes made quick work of the Penguins. The big story of the day is the injury of running back Beanie Wells. Wells left the game with a leg injury.

• Kansas kicks the crap out of Nebraska, 79-36- .....Tom Osbourne on line 1.....
  
• Navy beats Notre Dame, 46-44 in triple overtime- Notre Dame wasn't ready to give up their winning streak over Navy. They needed another three periods of play to enjoy those final moments of the streak.
  
• LSU beats Alabama, 41-34- Take THAT Nick Saban!
  
• Missouri continues to make the state of Colorado cry, wins 55-10- Missouri and Kansas to settle who plays in the Big 12 title game, three weeks from now.
  
• Michigan comes back, beats Michigan State 28-24- Hey that's almost like the movie 300!
  
• Oregon defeats Arizona State, 35-23- Look at them Ducks go.
  
• Florida State upsets Boston College, 17-7- Ahhh crap!

College Football Update: I Know What You Are, But What Am I?

Happy Saturday to everybody. It's time for me to do a college football update. It is about time that I did that because it has been a couple of weeks since my last full one.

• Virginia upsets Wake Forest, 17-16- Behold, a new twist in the ACC.
  
• Iowa hurts my feelings, beats Northwestern 28-17- Damn Hawkeyes.
  
• Indiana defeats Ball State, 38-20- Congratulations to the Hoosiers for officially becoming Bowl elgible.
  
• Ohio State defeats Wisconsin- Go Bucks Goo, GO Bucks Gooo, hey Columbus what do you say, the Buckeyes are gonna win today! (Note: I did that for all Buckeye fans. That is from the Go Cubs Go song)
  
• NC State defeats Miami, 19-16 in OT- I didn't really see it.
  
• Clemson destroys Duke, 47-10- *Laughs*

College Football Update: My only update for the day

Hey guys, I figured I would do a recap of the earlier games. I am headed down to Cedar Rapids tonight to cover a fight event and I am excited. It should be a fun time. I won't really be able to do a recap of the games that are taking place tonight. What happened today, while I was busy with homecoming festivities?

• Pittsburgh knocks off Cincinnati, 24-17- So much for me being a Cincy bandwagon jumper.
  
• Vanderbilt upsets South Carolina, 17-6- Somewhere right now, Skip Bayless is dancing and I find that disturbing.
  
• Alabama destroys Tennessee, 41-17- The SEC Upset Trifecta is now in play.
  
• Clemson shatters the dreams of all Central Michigan fans, wins 70-14- Don't need nothing, but a good time, how can I resist? Ain't looking for nothing, but a good time and it don't get better than this.
  
• North Dakota State hurts Minnesota fans, wins 24-17- Gophers: We're a real Big-Ten team. NDS: Not anymore.

College Football Update: The ALCS Is STILL On

College Football Update: That SI Football Offer is Mighty Tempting

We are experiencing another super-duper fun day of the popular American sport, college football. Unfortunately, something is up with my cable and I cannot get ABC, so I am stuck watching the games on ESPN.

Before the night games get under way, let's recap some of the earlier action:

• Iowa upsets Illinois, 10-6- Ron Zook: And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids and your dumb Hawk. I'm glad I missed this game to go cover a soccer match (they won).
  
• Kentucky beats LSU, 43-37-NOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I went against Kentucky and it backfired. Why me?
  
• USC holds off Arizona, 20-13- The Men of Troy are back in business, or are they? This could be a false sense of security.
  
• South Carolina holds off late rally by North Carolina to win, 21-15- One yard shy folks, just one more yard and who knows.
  
• Oregon destroys Washington State, 53-7- Oooh that can't feel good.
  
• Cornell beats Colgate, 17-14- Score one for the non-toothpaste team.
  
• Texas blows away Iowa State, 56-3- Makes you want to hide in a corner and wait for the beatdown to end.
  
• Oklahoma State destroys Nebraska, 45-14- I wonder, will Mike Gundy will stick up for the Cornhuskers after their terrible performance?
  
• Ohio defeated Eastern Michigan, 48-42- Does anybody really care? I cared enough to post the score.
  
• Northwestern beats Minnesota in a double overtime shootout, 49-48- This is Northwestern football, CJ Bacher, 449 yards and four touchdowns. Great win today guys!

College Football Update: The Badgers Got 'Juiced'

I'm not sure where we should start on this super exciting day of college football. It was another terrific day of football.

• Illinois knocks off Wisconsin, 31-26, Rashard Mendenhall=Total Awesomeness
  
• USC falls to Stanford, 24-23- Is it me, or did Jim Harbaugh plan for this game all season? This is no doubt about it, Stanford's biggest win of the year.
  
• Oklahoma defeats Texas, 28-21- Well I did cover the spread.
  
• Tennessee defeats Georgia, 35-14- I should really stop picking SEC games.
  
• LSU defeats Florida, 28-24- Well at least something went my way tonight.

College Football Update: Does Anybody Else Have a Bad Feeling in Their Stomach???

Wow, what another great Saturday that the great game of college football has given us.

Unfortunately, it was laced with plenty of upsets. Let's go over the upsets, dating back to last night:

• South Florida upsets West Virginia- I called that one.
  
• Auburn upsets Florida, 20-17- It took a field goal as time expired to win. Nonetheless, still a great win for the Tigers.
  
• Illinois defeats Penn State, 27-20- Great win for the Illini.
  
• Colorado defeats Oklahoma, 27-24- TAKE THAT BOB STOOPS!!!
  
• Maryland upsets Rutgers, 34-24- Ooh a stumble for the Scarlet Knights.
  
• Georgia Tech upsets Clemson, 13-3- One Bowden goes down.
  
• Florida State upsets Alabama, 21-14, But the other one defeats a Saban.
  
• Kansas State destroys Texas, 41-21, Owwww, that didn't look fun. I guess lightning can strike twice.
  
• USC prevents upset, defeats Washington, 27-24- USC is safe, for another day.

College Football Update: Another One Bites the Dust

Happy College Football Saturday Day!!!! Yes I did make that up. Deal with it.

Once again, it's been another exciting Saturday of college football, let's get going on a recap of the day. I think we can call this the day of upsets. We saw some ranked teams lose today, who came out a loser.

• Illinois upsets Penn State, 27-20- The Illini are off to a great start. They're 4-1 overall (2-0 in the conference). The last time the Illini had that good of a start, it was 2001, Ron Turner was coach and Kurt Kittner was quarterback. They seem to be on to something good in Champaign.
  
• Colorado edges Oklahoma, 27-24- People in Norman must be feeling blue. Great win for Colorado today.
  
• Kansas State destroys Texas, 41-21- It was inevitable for the Longhorns. My Heisman pick, Colt McCoy, does not look like a Heisman candidate.
  
• Wisconsin holds off Michigan State, 37-34- Wisconsin holds on at home. But how will they do on the road next week against the hot Illini.
  
• California defeats Oregon, 31-24- Great now I'm 2-2 in my picks. I need Florida to win tonight.

College Football Update: Liddell Loses, GASP!!!!!

What an incredible night it was for the UFC. Liddell and Shogun lose, Forrest Griffin and Keith Jardine win. I am at a loss for words.

But we have a recap of college football to do.

• USC destroys Washington, 47-14- Another dominating win for USC.
  
• Kentucky defeats Arkansas, 42-29- Kentucky seems like the real deal to me. I could see them in the SEC Title game. What about you guys?
  
• Wisconsin holds off Iowa, 17-13- Once again, to all the doubters who said Iowa would lose, take that!
  
• Georgia defeated Alabama, 26-23- I can't believe Shogun lost. It stings a lot.
  

Now for the rest of the day.

• South Florida defeated North Carolina, 37-10- USF is on fire. They get West Virginia next week.
  
• Syracuse defeats Louisville, 38-35- Louisville has lost two straight, just like Chuck Liddell (I'm good with these tie-ins).
  
• LSU beat South Carolina- LSU definitely a top team in country.
  
• Notre Dame loses to Michigan State, 31-14- Notre Dame is 0-4, South Bend said to be going insane. No smiley faces for Notre Dame fans. :(

College Football Update: Hey UFC is Tonight

Another interesting afternoon of college football has come and left us standing at the door.

Where to start, where to start? I'll recap as much as I can, since the UFC isn't for another couple of hours.

• LSU defeats South Carolina, 28-16- It's a win-win for me. Not only did LSU win, but they didn't cover the spread in my Yahoo College Pick Em' League. Excellent work on my part.


• Nebraska holds off Ball State, 41-40- Huge props to Ball State, the college that my cousin went to when he was younger. It's great to see that they kept up with the Cornhuskers.


• UPSET ALERT: Louisville loses to Syracuse, 38-35- There's nothing like giving Big East props to the Syracuse Orangemen for their amazing upset over one of the better teams in the conference (Well they were better, I guess not).


• ANOTHER UPSET ALERT: Penn State loses to Michigan, 14-9. You know, the Wolverines are 1-0 in the Big Ten, the possibility of winning the conference title is not out of the realm of possibility.

College Football Update: Total Pwnage for Men of Troy

Another great week of college football has come and gone. So many storylines happened today. We could talk about anything at this point.

First, we will do a recap of tonight's events:

• USC defeated Nebraska, 49-31- It was close early on for both sides and it looked like the Cornhuskers would keep it close. But the Trojans started to pull away for good and on their way to a 2-0 record. USC certainly proved that they are the no.-1 team in the country. The battle in Lincoln great test for the Trojans.
  
• Alabama wins a close one over Arkansas, 41-38- Bama quarterback John Parker Wilson threw for 328 yards and four touchdown passes. Arkansas running back Darren McFadden ran for 199 yards and two touchdowns.
  
• Boston College defeated Georgia Tech, 24-10- BC quarterback Matt Ryan had a career day, throwing for 435 yards. BC has a chance to run the table in the ACC and maybe make it to the conference title game.
  
  Now for a quick recap of the rest of the day:
  
• Michigan shut out Notre Dame, 38-0- Uhh, no comment.
  
• Iowa State defeated Iowa, 15-13- Great game with an exciting finish.
  
• Illinois defeated Syracuse, 41-20- HOORAY JUICE!!!!

College Football Update: Charlie Weis Wants to Go To Northern Illinois Too

Wow, what another great day to watch some college football. So much to discuss. I wish i knew where to start.

We'll cover both early games and the afternoon games.

• Iowa State Cyclones defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes, 15-12- People gave me crap about picking the Cyclones over the Hawkeyes? I don't remember who they were, but all I can say is, TAKE THAT!!!!
  
• Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Washington Huskies, 33-14.- The Buckeyes destroyed all hopes of a possible upset in the Northwest.
  
• Michigan Wolverwines shut out the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 38-0.- Charlie Weis is not having a fun time in South Bend. This isn't so much about Michigan winning, as it is about Notre Dame losing.
  
  Notre Dame is 0-3 under Charlie Weis. This team is lost. Somebody needs a hug. Not only that, but Irish quarterback Demetrius Jones has left Notre Dame and gone to Northern Illinois (sweet). I knew Jimmy Clausen wasn't going to be great, but I never expected the Fighting Irish to not have an offensive touchdown.
  
• Florida Gators destroy Tennessee Volunteers, 59-20.- SNAP MAN!!!!!
