Hump Day: Loser Rankings for December 23

1. St. Louis Rams- They need a quarterback...Then again, they need a lot of things.

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- They own the tiebreaker advantage over Detroit because they've scored only 214 points for the season.

3. Detroit Lions- They did hold their own against Arizona. They have at least one more win in them.

4. Kansas City Chiefs- They did lose to the Browns.

5. Washington Redskins- When you do something stupid like the fake field goal you tried to pull off on Monday Night Football, you end up on this list. Plus, it helps that Cleveland has won two straight games.

Hump Day: Some early December Loser Rankings

1. Cleveland Browns- They just keep falling apart. They're the lowest scoring team out of all the 1-10 teams. But the worst news for the Browns has to be the loss of Shaun Rogers for the season. He was probably their only star. Things just look awful for Cleveland. I am still interested in the Browns GM position (hint drop).

2. St. Louis Rams- The Rams actually had a decent shot against the Seahawks, but it didn't work out. The good news for them is that they get a freefalling Chicago Bears team.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- I hate putting this team at #3 because they've been playing great football as of late. Josh Freeman is probably blooming flower for the Bucs. He has 793 yards passing, along with seven TD passes in five games this season. I hope he can keep this up, because Tampa needs something to look forward to.

4. Detroit Lions- Just wasn't meant to be their season. It happens you know!

5. Oakland Raiders- They're the lowest scoring team in the NFL. How can the Raiders not be on this list?

Hump Day: Your Loser Rankings for First Week of November

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- They're the only NFL team without a win this season. They get Green Bay this week. Josh Freeman makes his first NFL start this Sunday. Maybe he can get Tampa their first win too.

2. Cleveland Browns- They got rid of GM George Kokinis. That said, I announced on Twitter that I was interested in the GM position. I still am Mr. Lerner. I have qualifications...Okay maybe not, but still, I can't do any worse than before.

3. St. Louis Rams- I knew they would win at some point. Every team has to win. The Lions did it earlier this year and now the Rams are in the win column.

4. Detroit Lions- The Lions find themselves back on the list. The honeymoon is over. You guys are 1-6.

5. Kansas City Chiefs- The Chiefs won a spot over the Titans this week because the Titans won over Jacksonville.

The season standings are put off until the end of the season, when we declare our winner...I mean loser.

Hump Day: Week 7 Loser Rankings

1. St. Louis Rams- So I have no idea when the Rams will win a game again. Maybe they can win against Detroit this week.

2. Tennessee Titans- Well the Titans didn't lose this week...but they didn't win either.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- They couldn't strike it big in England. The good news for Tampa is that they won't be playing this weekend. This gives Tampa time to get Josh Freeman ready to start against Green Bay.

4. Cleveland Browns- Things are just flat out awful in Cleveland. Can things get any worse?

5. Washington Redskins- The picture says it all. Monday's game was just ugly. The turnovers were uglier. Let's face it, there is no alibi for this team.

Hump Day: The Loser Rankings- October 14

Here we are at another week.

1. St. Louis Rams- Well they're still quite bad. Who knows what will be of this Limbaugh talk?

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- So how did Josh Johnson work out last Sunday?

3. Tennessee Titans- I had faith in this team when they started 0-3. That faith is pretty much gone. Two questions remain: how worse can this season get for the Titans? And how long before Kerry Collins is out as starting quarterback?

4. Kansas City Chiefs- If it wasn't for Miles Austin and his 250 yard receiving day, the Chiefs would have a win already.

5. Buffalo Bills- When you lose 6-3 to the Browns you belong on the list for the week.

Hump Day: The Loser Rankings- October 7, 2009

So here we are at another week of the Loser's Rankings. And good news for Lions fans, they're not on the list. Can't say the same about the teams on this list now.

1. St. Louis Rams- You know you got it bad when Rush Limbaugh wants to buy your team.

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- The Bucs did release Mike Nugent on Tuesday...Maybe things will look up for them?

3. Cleveland Browns- They could easily be #1, but there's still a long season ahead. It could be much longer for Braylon Edwards though.

4. Tennessee Titans- They lost three close games. However, the Titans lost by 20 points to Jacksonville. I think you can understand why they're on this list now...right?

5. Kansas City Chiefs- Probably should be at #4 or higher, but they're not.

Hump Day: The Loser Rankings- The Aztec Tomb Edition

So here we are with another day for the Losers. However, this week, we're doing something different. We're going to take a look at all the teams that are currently 0-3. Is there hope still or should these teams just jump in the Aztec Tomb. Who's first!?

Miami Dolphins- So the Dolphins have no Chad Pennington for the season and their new starting quarterback is Chad Henne. But wait, the Dolphins traded for Tyler Thigpen on Tuesday.

The Dolphins are in the middle of the pack when it comes to offense and defense ranks. They have back-to-back home games. If the Dolphins split those games, they'll be 1-4 going into the bye week. The remaining non-division schedule includes Pittsburgh and New Orleans. However, the Dolphins also have games against other 0-3 teams like the Bucs, Titans and Panthers.

Verdict: I don't see the Dolphins making the playoffs, but they will win six games. So no tomb for the Dolphins.

Cleveland Browns- Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn? The problem for this team goes much deeper than the quarterback controversy. They're at the bottom of the NFL in offense and 30th defense. Things have gone from bad to worse. The Mangini Magic is not working. They have Cincy this week. The Browns have Green Bay, Chicago and San Diego still on the schedule.

Verdict: Get in the tomb! The Browns will go 2-14.

St. Louis Rams- The Rams are averaging 8 points per game. Steve Spagnulo probably should have held out for a better job. But it is what it is. They get San Francisco and Minnesota next. They have Indy, Chicago and New Orleans still left in their non-division schedule.

Verdict: Rams will go 1-15. I think it's safe for them to get in the tomb.

Tennessee Titans- All three of the Titans losses were by a combined 13 points. They've kept it close, but not close enough. Good news though Titans fans, they face Jacksonville on Sunday. New England and San Diego are on the schedule, as well as the Rams and the Dolphins.

Verdict: This might be the best 0-3 team out of the entire group. They won't win 13 games, but they still have a shot at .500. They do have the ability to go 9-7.

Kansas City Chiefs- They lost to the Raiders, which was their only winnable game. They also lost to Baltimore and Philadelphia (granted it was against Kevin Kolb). They have the Giants and the Cowboys for their next two games. The division isn't very strong (do you really think the Broncos are good enough to win the division?).

Verdict: Todd Haley will be lucky to win seven games for the Chiefs. I see them going 6-10, but no Aztec Box.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Josh Johnson starts on Sunday for the Bucs. There isn't a lot of bright spots for this team. They have Washington and Philly next. They still have the Jets and Patriots.

Verdict: 4-12, go ahead and get in the Aztec Tomb.

Carolina Panthers: Where do I begin? I have no idea what to think about this team. They should be good, but they're not...It's a bye for the Panthers this week (and it comes at a great time). They have Miami, Buffalo, Minnesota and both New York teams. It just doesn't look that good.

Verdict: 5-11, 6-10 sounds possible. I don't see it being any worse than 3-13 though.

I'll have a Loser Ranking next week for sure though.

The Loser Rankings: Week 2

1. St. Louis Rams- They lost 9-7 to a Washington. They've also been outscored 37-7 in two games. Things don't look very good.

2. Detroit Lions- 19 straight! My offer still stands Lions. If you win one game, you're off the list for sure by the next week.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars- Is the end drawing near for head coach Jack Del Rio? It's a road game this week, but maybe Jacksonville fans would prefer that the game was blacked out.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Central Florida is in for a long, long year.

5. Cleveland Browns- They did lose to the Broncos, ya know!

So many teams could be in the top five. Next week, we bring out the Aztec Tomb, for those teams that will start the season 0-3.

The Loser Rankings: Electic Boogaloo Edition

So it's a new season, and we take a look at the worst teams after week 1. Don't read too much into the first couple of weeks of the Rankings. Please keep that in mind.


1. St. Louis Rams- They went 2-14 last season and they got shut out in an ugly game against division foe Seattle Seahawks. Things aren't looking good for the Rams this season.

2. Detroit Lions- The Lions have lost 18 straight games, dating back to the 2007 season. It makes sense that they'd be on this list.

3. Buffalo Bills- It was an ugly preseason for the Bills. And while they were leading on Monday night against the Patriots, they couldn't close the game out. This will not be a pretty season.

4. Cincinnati Bengals- I'll let this play say my thoughts about the Bengals at four.

5. Cleveland Browns- They hung in there with the Vikings for a half. Then Adrian Peterson ran them over.

NFL Preview Show Extravaganza: St. Louis Rams

There's a new sheriff in St. Louis and his name is Steve Spagnuolo. He is the type of defensive presence the Rams need to get out of the cellar.

Spagnulo did wonders for the Giants during his tenure there as defensive coordinator. He indeed was a vital part of the Giants Super Bowl a couple of seasons ago. Spagnuolo turned the Giants into a top 10 defense in just two seasons.

He also played a strong role in Philadelphia under the tutelage of Jim Johnson. His resume is impressive and it's nice to see him get a head coaching job in the NFL.

Spagnuolo definitely is the right man for the job in St. Louis. The Rams have been one of the league's worst on defense in the previous four seasons. In fact, the Rams haven't been a top 10 defense since the 2001 season.

In 2008, the Rams gave up 29 points per game, second worst in the NFL. There weren't many, if any, bright spots on the Rams defense last season. James Hall led the team in sacks with 6.5. O.J Atogwe led the team in interceptions with 5.

Even last year's first round pick Chris Long had a "meh" type of year. Yeah he picked up four sacks, but that was it. He is well overdue for a better season in 2009.

At the very least, Spagnuolo can bring some calm to a ruffled Rams team. The Scott Linehan experiment was not working and nobody bought into him. Nobody expects Spagnuolo to get the Rams to the playoffs. However, if he can get the Rams winning six games, including games against key division opponents, he'll surely be on the right track.

Hump Day: The Loser Rankings- October 28, 2008

Ahh yes, we have now officially reached the halfway point of this 2008 NFL season. That said, here's a look at the top five worst teams in the NFL.

1. Detroit Lions- I believe that picture says it all. The Lions are just flat out awful this year. To make matters worse, Detroit's former mayor was sentenced to 120 days in jail.

2. Cincinnati Bengals- No Carson Palmer, not much of anything. The Bengals are preparing for the next season. The best they can do at this point is go .500. Be real though, do you think the Bengals can win eight straight games.

3. Kansas City Chiefs- They had a chance against the Jets last week, but sadly, they still somehow found a way to lose the game. On the bright side, Tyler Thigpen had a terrific game against the Jets.

4. San Francisco 49ers- It was a tough loss for Mike Singletary. The Niners have now lost five straight games. Is that a good enough reason for you?

5. St. Louis Rams/Seattle Seahawks- Would you believe that the NFC West is the worst division in pro football? Yeah I find it hard to believe as well.

The Mondays: A good day for Tampa

Sunday was a great day to be a citizen of Tampa. The Rays won the AL Pennant and are playing in their first World Series in franchise history. A big congratulations goes out to them, here at Oh No Romo. However, this is a football blog. We talk football here.

SUNDAY NIGHT RECAP: Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20 - Seattle Seahawks 10- Sunday night was by far a big night for quarterback Jeff Garcia. Garcia threw for 310 yards and one touchdown in the win. The lone touchdown pass went to receiver Antonio Bryant. The Bucs are now 5-2 and tied for first in the NFC South. If the Bucs go through Dallas and KC, they will go 7-2 into their bye week. I'd have to say things are going well.

ROMO ALERT: St. Louis Rams 34 - Dallas Cowboys 14- No Tony Romo, no win? It could be the case. You can't deny that the Rams have been playing good football though. Steven Jackson had a HUGE day for the Rams. Jackson ran for three touchdowns and 160 yards rushing. The Rams have knocked off two NFC East teams in a row. Coach Jim Haslett could very well save this season for the Rams.

Chicago Bears 48 - Minnesota Vikings 41- The Bears are an offensive fire power. Kyle Orton threw for 280 yards on Sunday with two touchdown passes. The Bears special teams deserve the credit for the win on Sunday though. Two touchdowns were scored on miscues by the Vikings special teams. The first came when punter Chris Kluwe dropped the snap, with Garrett Wolfe recovering the fumble and returning it 17 yards. The second came on a fumble by Charles Gordon, with Zackary Bowman scoring the touchdown.

Monday Night Prediction: Denver over New England

Hump Day: Loser Rankings- October 15, 2008

Without waiting any further, here's your top five worst teams in the NFL.

1. Detroit Lions- They came oh so close to winning this week, but it was a safety by quarterback Dan Orlovsky that would cost them the game against Minnesota.




2. Cincinnati Bengals- They ran with the Jets, but they couldn't close the deal. Now it looks like Carson Palmer will not play this week.

3. Oakland Raiders- Tom Cable made his debut as the Raiders Head Coach. It was a debut that he would like to forget. The Raiders were blown away, 34-3. The Raiders have been horrible on third downs this season, only converting 27.5 percent, third worst in the NFL.

4. Kansas City Chiefs- They had a bye week last week. They play the Titans this week and things could get bad.

5. St. Louis Rams- You see what happens when you win, you increase your chances of falling out of the top five. The Rams scored a HUGE win over the soaring Redskins. The Rams season is not entirely out of reach. The Seahawks aren't that strong (and risk being in the top five), the 49ers aren't that strong and I'm not sure what to think of the Cardinals (other than they're really really good). The win over Washington could very well salvage the Rams season.

Hump Day: The Loser Rankings- October 8, 2008

So the Loser Rankings decided to take a bye week last week. That is how bad things are right now. Sure I'm probably overreacting, but that's not the point. The point is that there is no point.

1. Detroit Lions- This team is indeed the worst in football. How does a defense give up 334 yards passing from Kyle Orton. Nothing against Orton (I'm a fan of the neckbeard), but when the Bears pass for 300 yards on you, you know you suck.
   
   
2. St. Louis Rams- Scott Linehan is gone, but don't expect the Rams to leave the Losers Rankings anytime soon.
   
   
3. Cincinnati Bengals- They came close to winning last week, but sadly they stay in the top five.
   
   
4. Houston Texans- This is such a good team and they came oh so close to defeating the Colts on Sunday. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. I hope the Texans don't stay in the top five for
   too long. They're too good of a team to be 0-4.
   
   
5. Kansas City Chiefs- It should be the Raiders in the top five, but the Chiefs won the tiebreaker because they lost to Oakland.

The Mondays: Emotional day for Bryant

Week four saw many great moments. Some were good, some very emotional, some even surprising.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30 - Green Bay Packers 21- This day belonged to Bucs kicker Matt Bryant, who lost his infant son unexpectedly earlier last week. Bryant kicked three key field goals, including a 24-yard go-ahead in the fourth quarter to help the Bucs win. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Bryant. He goes out on Sunday and plays. Should he have stayed home? I don't know because it is not up to me. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bryant and his wife during these tough times.

Buffalo Bills 31 - St. Louis Rams 14- The Rams are falling apart. Even the Rams know that they are unraveling. The Rams actually led this game at halftime, but they were shut out in the second half. Meanwhile, the Bills are in good shape, despite two straight scares against the Raiders and the Rams. However, a win against Arizona next week will put the Bills at 5-0 for the season, going into the bye week.

San Diego 28 - Oakland Raiders 18- So...Is Lane Kiffen going to be fired now? I give the Raiders credit, they stuck with the Chargers. This team has a lot of potential, but we'll see what happens now. I don't think Al Davis will fire him. I could be senile with that thought.

Romo Alert: Washington Redskins 26 - Dallas Cowboys 24- Okay, even I admit that I never saw this coming. The big story has to be the defense on the Cowboys side. They couldn't stop Jason Campbell in the air and they couldn't stop Clinton Portis on the ground. Are teams starting to figure out the Cowboys defense?

Sunday Night Recap: Bears defeat Eagles- I never saw this coming either. This was a defensive battle, but the offenses weren't that bad. Kyle Orton threw three touchdown passes on Sunday night, which only happens once in a blue moon. The Bears are now tied for first in the North with the win.

Hump Day: The Losers Rankings- September 24, 2008

Week three has officially come and gone. It's safe to say that we are well underway in this the 2008 regular season.

1. Detroit Lions- If there had to be one team that would knock off the St. Louis Rams, it would have to be the team from Detroit. The Lions are just flat out awful. Now, all eyes are on Matt Millen and the others in management. By the way, check out this interesting find from the Detroit Free Press. It's a top 10 list on the players Millen passed on.

2. St. Louis Rams- Guess who is the lowest scoring team in the NFL? That's right! The Rams have the worst offense in the NFL, scoring just 29 points in three games. The Rams are benching Marc Bulger and going with Trent Green.

3. Kansas City Chiefs- The teams from Missouri aren't doing very good. Is it time to panic? This blogger says...yes. Now it seems as though the Chiefs are going back to Damon Huard. Maybe KC will look into getting Tim Tebow.

4. Cincinnati Bengals- The Bengals are still doing bad. Things could get worse.

5. Cleveland Browns- So we have a team that almost made the playoffs in the top five of our list. Cleveland's biggest issue is the running game, or lack thereof. Jamal Lewis has carried the ball 44 times in three games for only 156 yards and zero touchdowns.

Losers Rankings: September 16, 2008

Week two has officially past and we are now 1/8 of the way through the 2008 regular season. Yes, I am keeping track. I should be on the loser's rankings. However, I'm not an NFL team. Here are your top five losers for the week.

1. St. Louis Rams- Once again, the Rams were blown apart by an NFC East team and it wasn't a very fun game for them. They're 0-2 and it looks like the Rams won't win a game for a while. One columnist seems to suggest that the Rams bring Dick Vermeil back, except in an executive position.
   
   
2. Detroit Lions- They got blown away by the Packers. Do people still believe that the Lions can win the division? Let me rephrase, did anybody think the Lions would win the division? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?
   
   
3. Miami Dolphins- What is there to say? They won't win next week against the Patriots. Maybe, just maybe they'll move up the charts.
   
   
4. Cincinnati Bengals- Cincy once again winds up in the fourth position. Chris Johnson of the Titans ran over the Cincy defense. The Bengals defense has given up an average of 200 yards rushing in two games. The Bengals offense, once a force to be reckoned with, has scored 17 points in two games. They have the Giants on Sunday and we could be seeing the Bengals start 0-3.
   
   
5. Kansas City Chiefs- The Chiefs have a lot of talent, but it seems as though the walls are crumbling. When you see headlines like these, you can't help but wonder what is wrong with the Chiefs. Plus, what about LJ? At this point, who knows. We don't even know who is starting at quarterback on Sunday.

Hump Day: Losers Power Rankings: September 10, 2008

It's like what we did last year. For those who don't know, we choose the worst teams in football, instead of the best. Here is your top five for this week

1. St. Louis Rams- They just got blown away against Philly. Steven Jackson might as well have been non-existent. The Rams need to get things on track or else they will stay at number one for a long while.
   
   
2. Detroit Lions- They lost to the Atlanta Falcons, need I say more? Okay sure Jon Kitna had a good game, but it's not enough. They lost to a team that started a rookie at the quarterback.
   
   
3. Oakland Raiders- They were awful on Monday night against the Broncos. The reason they are at number three is because of JaMarcus Russell's strong showing. The second year quarterback from LSU threw two touchdown passes in the losing effort. If the Raiders defense puts up more showings like that, they will hit number one in no time at all.
   
   
4. Cincinnati Bengals- They have no defense and now it looks like they have no offense. Quarterback Carson Palmer was 10-of-25 for 99 yards and one interception. The Bengals had only eight first downs on Sunday.
   
   
5. Minnesota Vikings- I don't know how long they'll be on this list for, but if they keep playing like they did on Monday night, they'll be there for a while.

I know this is a young list, but it should develop even more as the weeks progress.

NFL Preview Show Extravaganza: St. Louis Rams

Today, we continue to profile the NFC West with the St. Louis Rams.

The Rams finished the season 3-13. This team was awful last season. Injuries plagued the team and the offense struggled a lot.

Marc Bulger had one of his worse seasons in his career. Bulger threw for 2300 yards, 11 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. The 11 touchdowns was a career worst for Bulger.

One huge factor for the Rams in 2008 will be Steven Jackson. The 1000 yard rusher is currently in a holdout, but should be ready to play come the regular season. If Jackson stays healthy, it will be hard not to give him a new contract. Only time will tell if a deal gets done during training camp or not.

The Rams will open the regular season on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Rams play notable home games against New York (Giants), Chicago and Miami. On the road, the Rams will face Washington, Atlanta and New York (Jets):

Tuesdays with Romo: Rams beat the Saints

The St. Louis Rams picked up their first win of the 2007 season on Sunday, after defeating the New Orleans Saints, 37-29.

The 37 points against the Saints was the Rams highest scoring game this season. Quarterback Marc Bulger completed 27 of 33 passes for 302 yards and two touchdowns.

Running back Steven Jackson got back on track as he carried the ball 22 times for 76 yards and one rushing touchdown. Jackson also threw a two-yard touchdown pass to tight end Randy McMichael.

Receivers picking up game

Wide receiver Torry Holt had a season high 124 yards receiving and eight receptions against the Saints on Sunday. He wasn’t the only receiver to step it up.

Isaac Bruce caught four passes for 162 yards and also had a touchdown reception. It was Bruce’s first touchdown this season. In his previous two seasons, Bruce has caught a combined six touchdown passes.

Wide receiver Drew Bennett also caught a touchdown pass on Sunday, his second of the season.

Trouble with the O-Line continues

One issue that continues to bother the Rams is the trouble in the offensive line. Bulger was sacked four times on Sunday. This season, Bulger has been sacked 22 times this season, fourth most in the NFC.

The running game hasn’t been a lot better. Consider this, last season the Rams averaged 4.4 yards per carry, 10th best in the NFL. This season, the Rams are averaging 3.5 yards per carry, sixth worst in the NFL.

Run defense shuts down Bush

Despite giving up two rushing touchdowns, the Rams held the Saints to a total of 43 net yards on the ground.

In the process, the Rams were able to contain Reggie Bush to a combined 47 total yards, including 17 yards rushing. In the two games prior to Sunday, Bush had more than 100 yards of total offense.
