Hump Day: Your Loser Rankings for First Week of November

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- They're the only NFL team without a win this season. They get Green Bay this week. Josh Freeman makes his first NFL start this Sunday. Maybe he can get Tampa their first win too.

2. Cleveland Browns- They got rid of GM George Kokinis. That said, I announced on Twitter that I was interested in the GM position. I still am Mr. Lerner. I have qualifications...Okay maybe not, but still, I can't do any worse than before.

3. St. Louis Rams- I knew they would win at some point. Every team has to win. The Lions did it earlier this year and now the Rams are in the win column.

4. Detroit Lions- The Lions find themselves back on the list. The honeymoon is over. You guys are 1-6.

5. Kansas City Chiefs- The Chiefs won a spot over the Titans this week because the Titans won over Jacksonville.

The season standings are put off until the end of the season, when we declare our winner...I mean loser.

The Mondays: 59 points? Impressive!

New England Patriots 59 - Tennessee Titans 0- 59 points in an NFL game is tough to score. It's especially tougher when there's snow falling in October. Somehow, the Patriots like to score when the snow falls. Tom Brady threw six touchdown passes and they took him out of the game early. The Patriots had 32 first downs, as opposed to nine for the Titans. So when does Vince Young get his shot?

New Orleans Saints 48 - New York Giants 27- This was a statement game for the Saints. They needed to win on Sunday to prove that they're for real in the NFC. As the season progresses, that win could make the difference for home field in the NFC. We'll have to wait and see though.

Kansas City Chiefs 14 - Washington Redskins 6- So the Jim Zorn train is about ready to leave the station in Washington. It's no longer if, but when. Zorn can no longer call plays on offense now, according to Pro Football Talk.

Carolina Panthers 28 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers 21- The Panthers get Buffalo at home next. They could be 3-3 going to Arizona.

Oakland Raiders 14 - Philadelphia Eagles 9- Huh? Sorry, I was reading about the Phillies beating the Dodgers in game 3.

Buffalo Bills 16 - New York Jets 13- The Jets have lost three straight games. Is it time to start freaking out? Personally, I think it's funny.

SUNDAY NIGHT RECAP: Atlanta Falcons 21 - Chicago Bears 14- I admit, I cursed loudly on the fourth down play at the end of the game. For some backwards reason, the Falcons like beating the Bears. How about playing one in Soldier Field, eh Matty Ice? At 4-1, the Falcons are starting to prove that they are the real deal. It was a good win for them. Their next two games are road games against Dallas and New Orleans though. If they win against both teams, then they're a legit contender in the NFC.

MONDAY NIGHT PREDICTION: Denver over San Diego

Hump Day: The Loser Rankings- The Aztec Tomb Edition

So here we are with another day for the Losers. However, this week, we're doing something different. We're going to take a look at all the teams that are currently 0-3. Is there hope still or should these teams just jump in the Aztec Tomb. Who's first!?

Miami Dolphins- So the Dolphins have no Chad Pennington for the season and their new starting quarterback is Chad Henne. But wait, the Dolphins traded for Tyler Thigpen on Tuesday.

The Dolphins are in the middle of the pack when it comes to offense and defense ranks. They have back-to-back home games. If the Dolphins split those games, they'll be 1-4 going into the bye week. The remaining non-division schedule includes Pittsburgh and New Orleans. However, the Dolphins also have games against other 0-3 teams like the Bucs, Titans and Panthers.

Verdict: I don't see the Dolphins making the playoffs, but they will win six games. So no tomb for the Dolphins.

Cleveland Browns- Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn? The problem for this team goes much deeper than the quarterback controversy. They're at the bottom of the NFL in offense and 30th defense. Things have gone from bad to worse. The Mangini Magic is not working. They have Cincy this week. The Browns have Green Bay, Chicago and San Diego still on the schedule.

Verdict: Get in the tomb! The Browns will go 2-14.

St. Louis Rams- The Rams are averaging 8 points per game. Steve Spagnulo probably should have held out for a better job. But it is what it is. They get San Francisco and Minnesota next. They have Indy, Chicago and New Orleans still left in their non-division schedule.

Verdict: Rams will go 1-15. I think it's safe for them to get in the tomb.

Tennessee Titans- All three of the Titans losses were by a combined 13 points. They've kept it close, but not close enough. Good news though Titans fans, they face Jacksonville on Sunday. New England and San Diego are on the schedule, as well as the Rams and the Dolphins.

Verdict: This might be the best 0-3 team out of the entire group. They won't win 13 games, but they still have a shot at .500. They do have the ability to go 9-7.

Kansas City Chiefs- They lost to the Raiders, which was their only winnable game. They also lost to Baltimore and Philadelphia (granted it was against Kevin Kolb). They have the Giants and the Cowboys for their next two games. The division isn't very strong (do you really think the Broncos are good enough to win the division?).

Verdict: Todd Haley will be lucky to win seven games for the Chiefs. I see them going 6-10, but no Aztec Box.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Josh Johnson starts on Sunday for the Bucs. There isn't a lot of bright spots for this team. They have Washington and Philly next. They still have the Jets and Patriots.

Verdict: 4-12, go ahead and get in the Aztec Tomb.

Carolina Panthers: Where do I begin? I have no idea what to think about this team. They should be good, but they're not...It's a bye for the Panthers this week (and it comes at a great time). They have Miami, Buffalo, Minnesota and both New York teams. It just doesn't look that good.

Verdict: 5-11, 6-10 sounds possible. I don't see it being any worse than 3-13 though.

I'll have a Loser Ranking next week for sure though.

NFL Preview Show Extravaganza: Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos

We wrap up the 2009 edition of the NFL Preview Show Extravaganza with a two teams in one post. We'll keep it short and simple for both teams.

Hump Day: The Loser Rankings- October 28, 2008

Ahh yes, we have now officially reached the halfway point of this 2008 NFL season. That said, here's a look at the top five worst teams in the NFL.

1. Detroit Lions- I believe that picture says it all. The Lions are just flat out awful this year. To make matters worse, Detroit's former mayor was sentenced to 120 days in jail.

2. Cincinnati Bengals- No Carson Palmer, not much of anything. The Bengals are preparing for the next season. The best they can do at this point is go .500. Be real though, do you think the Bengals can win eight straight games.

3. Kansas City Chiefs- They had a chance against the Jets last week, but sadly, they still somehow found a way to lose the game. On the bright side, Tyler Thigpen had a terrific game against the Jets.

4. San Francisco 49ers- It was a tough loss for Mike Singletary. The Niners have now lost five straight games. Is that a good enough reason for you?

5. St. Louis Rams/Seattle Seahawks- Would you believe that the NFC West is the worst division in pro football? Yeah I find it hard to believe as well.

Hump Day: The Loser Rankings- October 22, 2008

Another week, another loser's rankings are here. You know the drill by now.

1. Detroit Lions- So, it has been a couple of weeks since Matt Millen was carried out of Detroit on a pole. Yes, the Lions are still winless. Two more losses and the Lions are officially out of the NFC North playoff hunt.
   
   
2. Cincinnati Bengals- So this team is continuing to fall apart. It's funny, but sad, tragic, yet amusing.
   
   
3. Kansas City Chiefs- So the woes continue for the Chiefs. Things just don't look good for this franchise.
   
   
4. Seattle Seahawks- I did not see this one coming. Honestly!
   
   
5. Oakland Raiders- If they keep winning, they won't have to be on this list.
   

Hump Day: Loser Rankings- October 15, 2008

Without waiting any further, here's your top five worst teams in the NFL.

1. Detroit Lions- They came oh so close to winning this week, but it was a safety by quarterback Dan Orlovsky that would cost them the game against Minnesota.




2. Cincinnati Bengals- They ran with the Jets, but they couldn't close the deal. Now it looks like Carson Palmer will not play this week.

3. Oakland Raiders- Tom Cable made his debut as the Raiders Head Coach. It was a debut that he would like to forget. The Raiders were blown away, 34-3. The Raiders have been horrible on third downs this season, only converting 27.5 percent, third worst in the NFL.

4. Kansas City Chiefs- They had a bye week last week. They play the Titans this week and things could get bad.

5. St. Louis Rams- You see what happens when you win, you increase your chances of falling out of the top five. The Rams scored a HUGE win over the soaring Redskins. The Rams season is not entirely out of reach. The Seahawks aren't that strong (and risk being in the top five), the 49ers aren't that strong and I'm not sure what to think of the Cardinals (other than they're really really good). The win over Washington could very well salvage the Rams season.

Hump Day: The Loser Rankings- October 8, 2008

So the Loser Rankings decided to take a bye week last week. That is how bad things are right now. Sure I'm probably overreacting, but that's not the point. The point is that there is no point.

1. Detroit Lions- This team is indeed the worst in football. How does a defense give up 334 yards passing from Kyle Orton. Nothing against Orton (I'm a fan of the neckbeard), but when the Bears pass for 300 yards on you, you know you suck.
   
   
2. St. Louis Rams- Scott Linehan is gone, but don't expect the Rams to leave the Losers Rankings anytime soon.
   
   
3. Cincinnati Bengals- They came close to winning last week, but sadly they stay in the top five.
   
   
4. Houston Texans- This is such a good team and they came oh so close to defeating the Colts on Sunday. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. I hope the Texans don't stay in the top five for
   too long. They're too good of a team to be 0-4.
   
   
5. Kansas City Chiefs- It should be the Raiders in the top five, but the Chiefs won the tiebreaker because they lost to Oakland.

Friday Briefs: NFL Picks- Week 4

It was another great week for yours truly. I went 4-1 for the week. After three weeks, I am 11-4. Things are looking up for me. Hopefully, I can keep things going.

Tennessee over Minnesota- It makes perfect sense.

Denver over KC- Like KC has a chance?

Carolina over Atlanta- I like that the Falcons are 2-1, but the Panthers are a tough team.

Jacksonville over Houston- The Jags are back on track.

UPSET: San Francisco over New Orleans

Hump Day: The Losers Rankings- September 24, 2008

Week three has officially come and gone. It's safe to say that we are well underway in this the 2008 regular season.

1. Detroit Lions- If there had to be one team that would knock off the St. Louis Rams, it would have to be the team from Detroit. The Lions are just flat out awful. Now, all eyes are on Matt Millen and the others in management. By the way, check out this interesting find from the Detroit Free Press. It's a top 10 list on the players Millen passed on.

2. St. Louis Rams- Guess who is the lowest scoring team in the NFL? That's right! The Rams have the worst offense in the NFL, scoring just 29 points in three games. The Rams are benching Marc Bulger and going with Trent Green.

3. Kansas City Chiefs- The teams from Missouri aren't doing very good. Is it time to panic? This blogger says...yes. Now it seems as though the Chiefs are going back to Damon Huard. Maybe KC will look into getting Tim Tebow.

4. Cincinnati Bengals- The Bengals are still doing bad. Things could get worse.

5. Cleveland Browns- So we have a team that almost made the playoffs in the top five of our list. Cleveland's biggest issue is the running game, or lack thereof. Jamal Lewis has carried the ball 44 times in three games for only 156 yards and zero touchdowns.

Losers Rankings: September 16, 2008

Week two has officially past and we are now 1/8 of the way through the 2008 regular season. Yes, I am keeping track. I should be on the loser's rankings. However, I'm not an NFL team. Here are your top five losers for the week.

1. St. Louis Rams- Once again, the Rams were blown apart by an NFC East team and it wasn't a very fun game for them. They're 0-2 and it looks like the Rams won't win a game for a while. One columnist seems to suggest that the Rams bring Dick Vermeil back, except in an executive position.
   
   
2. Detroit Lions- They got blown away by the Packers. Do people still believe that the Lions can win the division? Let me rephrase, did anybody think the Lions would win the division? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?
   
   
3. Miami Dolphins- What is there to say? They won't win next week against the Patriots. Maybe, just maybe they'll move up the charts.
   
   
4. Cincinnati Bengals- Cincy once again winds up in the fourth position. Chris Johnson of the Titans ran over the Cincy defense. The Bengals defense has given up an average of 200 yards rushing in two games. The Bengals offense, once a force to be reckoned with, has scored 17 points in two games. They have the Giants on Sunday and we could be seeing the Bengals start 0-3.
   
   
5. Kansas City Chiefs- The Chiefs have a lot of talent, but it seems as though the walls are crumbling. When you see headlines like these, you can't help but wonder what is wrong with the Chiefs. Plus, what about LJ? At this point, who knows. We don't even know who is starting at quarterback on Sunday.

The Mondays: Happy Jeff Pearlman Book Release Day

Ahh yes, it is another Monday. I'd like to send a friendly reminder to all of you bookworms out there that the new Jeff Pearlman book, Boys Will Be Boys, is being released (UPDATED, depends where I guess) tomorrow. Make sure you pick up your copy today, or tomorrow, or next week. Eventually I guess. Enough with the awkwardness, let's talk football!

Denver Broncos 39 - San Diego Chargers 38- Have you ever wanted to go for two points to win the game? Mike Shanahan did! The Broncos two pointer late in the game made the difference as they defeated the Chargers. Jay Cutler is starting to grow into a very good quarterback. He threw for 350 yards on Sunday, with four touchdowns. Phillip Rivers had a good game for the Chargers, throwing for 377 yards and three touchdowns.

Indianapolis Colts 18 - Minnesota Vikings 15- One of these two teams was going to finish Sunday with an 0-2 record. Peyton Manning wasn't about to allow that to happen. The Colts scored 18 unanswered points to beat the Vikings. Adam Vinatieri kicked a 47-yarder in the final seconds to clinch the game for the Colts. The Vikings did a good job shutting down the running game, giving up only 25 yards rushing. The Vikings could very well have won this game, but they didn't score any touchdowns, which hurt them in the long run. You can't win games only scoring field goals, especially against the Colts.

Oakland Raiders 23 - Kansas City Chiefs 8- In what could be Lane Kiffen's last game, the Raiders had their finest showing yet in the young coach's second season. Darren McFadden had 164 rushing yards on the day. He had one touchdown.

Sunday Night Recap: Pittsburgh Steelers 10 - Cleveland Browns 6- To be fair, it was very windy. Neither side was going to get the job done passing, even though Roethlisberger threw a touchdown pass. Willie Parker was able to run the ball better than Jamal Lewis did. Lewis has not been able to turn on the jets. He has only 62 yards rushing in two games this season.

Monday Night Prediction: Dallas edges out Philly 24-20

Friday Briefs: NFL Picks- Week 2

Last week was a rough way to start the 2008 season. My picks didn't pan out the way I thought they would. Never fear, this week should be much better.

Green Bay over Detroit- Detroit could very well start 0-2.

Indianapolis over Minnesota- Indy gets back on track.

Carolina over Chicago- I could see this game being close.

Seattle over San Francisco- Hey, least they're not traveling across the country.

UPSET PICK: Oakland over KC

NFL Preview Show Extravaganza: Kansas City Chiefs

We're now in the final division of our look at the 32 teams of the NFL. This week, our attention is turned towards the AFC West. Today, we take a look at the farthest eastern team in the West, the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs are a team with a lot of talent all-around. They have an excellent defense. However, their offense held back the team in 2007.

The choices at quarterback for the Chiefs were Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard. Unfortunately, neither one stepped it up. Huard had the best of the two, throwing for 2200 yards and 11 touchdowns. Croyle did not win any of the games he started in 2007.

Another issue for the Chiefs was the running game. In 2006, Larry Johnson had his best season ever as a running back. In 2007, well it wasn't his year. Johnson played eight games in 2007. He ran for 559 yards and three touchdowns.

Johnson averaged 3.5 yards per carry, worst output in his career. Many attribute this slowdown to the fact that Johnson carried the ball 416 times in the NFL in 2006. If Johnson stays healthy, he should have a good season.

One pleasant surprise for the Chiefs was the rise of rookie wide receiver Dwayne Bowe. Bowe caught 70 balls for almost 1000 yards. Bowe gives the Chiefs another weapon to turn to, taking pressure off of tight end Tony Gonzalez.

The Chiefs open up the 2008 regular season at home when they take on the defending AFC champions, the New England Patriots. At home, the Chiefs will face Tennessee, Tampa and Miami. On the road, the Chiefs will face Carolina, Atlanta and New York (Jets).

Friday Briefs: The 'Where Will Jason Taylor Go' Game

It's Friday and I don't have to go to school......For a week. Woo, a whole week off from school, only to return for summer school (my choice). With that, I'll also be taking a week off from the blog, barring any huge story breaking in the next week. So for my last post before I head home for the week, I thought I'd play a little game.

With the recent situation surround Jason Taylor and the Miami Dolphins, I figured what the hey; I'll generate some scenarios for where Jason Taylor could end up, in case he is traded or released before June 1.

So.....LET'S PLAY WHERE THE HELL WILL JASON TAYLOR GO......

Kansas City Chiefs

This move makes a lot of sense for the Chiefs. They traded away Jared Allen to the Vikings and need to fill the spot. Could you imagine Tamba Hali and Jason Taylor lining up on the ends with Glenn Dorsey at the defensive tackle spot. I'm getting all tingly just thinking about it. If the Chiefs can pull it off, that would be the biggest acquisition of the off-season.


Washington Redskins

This might be a stretch, but Dan Snyder tried to get Chad Johnson, do not think for two minutes that Snyder won't wheel and deal to try and get Taylor.

New Orleans Saints

This move would make sense for the Saints. They don't have much depth. They also have a lot of salary cap room. Taylor would give a huge boost to a struggling defense. In 2007, Charles Grant and Will Smith combined for a total of 9.5 sacks. Taylor recorded 11 sacks in 2007. I'm not saying it would be enough, but it's better than before.

Carolina Panthers

With the recent retirement of Mike Rucker, the Panthers are pinning their hopes and dreams on Tyler Brayton, who didn't start a game for Oakland in 2007, but still played 16 games. Brayton recorded only nine tackles on the season. Taylor would be a complement to fellow end, Julius Peppers. Peppers recorded a career low, 2.5 sacks in 2007. If Taylor comes to Carolina, it will be one less problem for John Fox to deal with.

Seattle Seahawks

This team is a top ten defense in the NFL. Could you imagine seeing Jason Taylor wearing a Seahawks uniform? It's flabbergasting! This team is stacked with an excellent defense from line, to secondary. Taylor could send the Seahawks to South Florida, come February.

Friday Briefs: The Final Frontier

Here we are....Walking down the street...We've reached the final two weeks of the 2008 NFL regular season. Finally! I'll profile the final six games right here, right now!

Week 16- Dec. 18, 20, 21 and 22

Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars- This game could very well have playoff implications. If the Colts don't have the division wrapped up by this point, it could be the chance of a lifetime for the Jags to sneak in and win their first division title as an AFC South team and first overall division title since the 1999 season- Thurs. Dec. 18 at 8:15 PM ET on the NFL Network

Pittsburgh Steelers at Tennessee Titans- We have another game with playoff implications. It could very well be a win and get in for the Titans- 1 PM ET on CBS

Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears- The final MNF game of the regular season features two NFC North foes. It could be good, it could be bad!- 8:30 PM ET on ESPN

Week 17- Dec. 28

Just a personal note, I have no intentions of posting the times to these games, because the Sunday Night game will be selected the week of. I'm not about to assume anything at this point.

Oakland Raiders at Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Are you like me and wondering how will Jon Gruden coach against his old team?

New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills- 16-0 anybody?

Kansas City Chiefs at Cincinnati Bengals- What? This was the only other non-divisional game, besides Oakland-TB.

Hump Day: Priest Holmes Retires

Happy Wednesday to everybody. I am making a couple of quick posts today to take care of the rest of the week.





Anywho, the big story of the day had to be the retirement announcement of Kansas City Chiefs running back Priest Holmes.





Holmes has been feeling numbness all week because of an injury suffered in Sundays loss against the Indianapolis Colts.





It was cool to see him try to make the comeback, but he's doing the right thing by retiring. His health and well-being is much more important than football at this point in his life. He was a terrific running back and I'll miss seeing him play.

Friday Briefs:

Happy Friday everybody. It's been a long week and I have a fight event to go and cover tomorrow night. I'm very excited about the event, even more excited than my homecoming. It's kind of sad when you think about it.

Once again, I went 3-2 last week. For the regular season, I am 18-11. Maybe, just maybe, I can go 5-0. Better yet, I'll be happy to get my 20th win of the season. Let's take a gander.

• New York Jets over Cincinnati Bengals- Be hopeful Jets fans.
  
• St. Louis Rams over Seattle Seahawks- The Rams gotta win during some point in the season.

Week four of the NFL season saw a lot of action and storylines.

• Kansas City Chiefs destroyed the San Diego Chargers in the fourth quarter- Hahahahahahahahaha. Sorry Charger fans, but your team sucks!
  
• Buffalo Bills defeat New York Jets, 17-14- A win for the Bills means a loss for the Jets.
  
• Indianapolis Colts defeat Denver Broncos, 38-20- Great game for Colts tight end Dallas Clark.
  
• Chicago Bears lose again, to the Lions- I don't want to talk about the game. I didn't even get a chance to see it. So instead I'll say GO CUBS!!!
  
• Oakland Raiders beat the Miami Dolphins- Hey great to see the Raiders in the mix.
  
• Arizona Cardinals shocked the Pittsburgh Steelers, 21-14- Okay, it might not be shocking, so to say, but hey Ken Whisenhunt got to stick it to his old team.
  
• ROMO ALERT: Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo leads the Cowboys to another victory, 35-7, over the St. Louis Rams. Romo scored four touchdowns total (three passing, one rushing). He also threw for 339 yards and is third in the NFL in passing yards.

It is time for those crazy NFL Picks. Last weekend, I went 3-2 and am now 10-5 on the year. I am still over .500, but I need to keep on going.

• Green Bay Packers over Minnesota Vikings- Brett Favre and his team of youngins are on fire at this point. Do not expect the Vikings to win, unless you are a poor Vikings fan.
  
• San Francisco 49ers over Seattle Seahawks- Yes the Niners don't have a great offense, but they're playing at home. It will be close, very close.
  
• Indianapolis Colts over Denver Broncos- It's Indy, at home, this is going to be fun fun fun. Still not convinced, let this change your mind.
  
• Carolina Panthers over Tampa Bay Buccaneers- David Carr, or Jake Delhomme? I think Delhomme starts and the Panthers win. If Carr starts, I might as well add a loss to the column.
  
• Kansas City Chiefs over San Diego Chargers- Hey somebody has to win. This game will be very painful to watch, and not because of Randy Cross.
