The Mondays: Playoffs are set

So it should be noted that all four wild card games involve teams that played each other during the season. In fact, three of the four actually played each other during week 17.

Saturday

New York Jets at Cincinnati Bengals- The Jets blew out the Bengals to be the final team in the playoff mix. The Jets have the best defense in the NFL. They're also one of the best rushing offenses in the league. If they can do what they did on Sunday night, they'll easily defeat Cincy. However, the Bengals didn't get to this point without having a good defense as well. They need to shut down the running game and pressure Mark Sanchez. If they can do that, it certainly won't hurt their chances of winning.

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys- Another rematch from Sunday. The Cowboys won and took the wind out of the sails. It won't be as easy for our namesake as it was on Sunday. Philly will come to play on Saturday night.

Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots- We have two playoff tested teams going at each other. Baltimore lost a close game in the regular season. However, it's the Patriots. Tom Brady is one of the best playoff quarterbacks of all time. The Patriots will be ready to play. However, it looks like they'll be without Wes Welker. This could potentially work to the Ravens advantage. Suddenly, double teaming Randy Moss doesn't sound like a bad idea for Baltimore.

Green Bay Packers at Arizona Cardinals- The Cards definitely held back on Sunday against the Packers. Matt Leinart saw a lot of action. Rest assure Cardinal fans, Leinart won't be seeing action this Sunday, unless Kurt Warner gets hurt. This game could be the most exciting wild card game, or at least the highest scoring one out of the four.

Friday Briefs: Your Week 14 Picks

I went 4-1 last week, completely missing on the Tampa upset. I am now 50-19 for the season. I'll make only four picks this week and they will all be upsets.

Tampa Bay over New York (Jets)- It's Tampa at home and Kellen Clemons starts for the Jets.

Cincinnati over Minnesota- The Bengals will be fighting for the second seed up until the end of the season. The loss to the Cardinals could mean the Vikings are hitting the wall.

Buffalo over Kansas City- Would you believe the Bills have scored three more points this season than the Chiefs?

San Diego Chargers over Dallas Cowboys- It is December, ya know!

The Mondays: So about Tennessee...

Tennessee Titans 20 - Arizona Cardinals 17- The Titans are no doubt hotter than Hansel right now. I think Mugatu would agree with that. Vince Young has turned this 0-6 cellar team into something amazing. I said the Titans were the best 0-3 team at one point. Of course, I also lost my faith in the Titans. They get Indy on the road next week. If the Titans can beat Indy, they'll be 6-6. Their toughest opponent is San Diego in their final four games. If the Titans can go 3-1, to go along with the Indy win, they have a very good shot at gaining a wild card spot. Considering how the Titans started, it would be one of the greatest comebacks of all time.

Indianapolis Colts 35 - Houston Texans 27- Peyton Manning showed why he's one of the best. He really pulled the Colts out of their first half lag and took them to a win in Houston. The Texans. Manning didn't play too great in the first half, but hey they pulled it together and that's what counts.

Atlanta Falcons 20 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17- No Matt Ryan and Michael Turner for the Falcons. Chris Redman helped get the Falcons to victory on Sunday. So...yay Chris Redman!

New York Jets 17 - Carolina Panthers 6- A 12.7 QB rating for Jake Delhomme? I think time's running out for Delhomme in Carolina.

SUNDAY NIGHT RECAP: Baltimore Ravens 20 - Pittsburgh Steelers 17- The Ravens won it in OT. They needed the win and got it. The Steelers might be having some issues though. We have to wait and see though.

Tuesdays with Romo: Wildcat=Success?

Yes, I made a crude looking design to describe the Dolphins offense for this season.

Miami Dolphins 31 - New York Jets 27- It was a wildcat kind of night for the Dolphins. The game winning touchdown by Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown was in fact via the wildcat.

It was a great game for Chad Henne, as he completed 20-of-26 for 241 yards and two touchdowns.

Brown and Ricky Williams did a great job running the football on Monday night.

On the other side, it was a so-so game for Mark Sanchez. However, we saw Braylon Edwards make a fairly good debut for the Jets. He did catch a touchdown pass and almost got a second one, but after a challenge by Miami, the officials ruled him down at the 1-yard line.

This division just got a bit more interesting after Monday night. The Jets and Patriots aren't running away with the division and Miami took a huge step Monday night to send the message to the AFC East that they aren't going away too soon.

The Mondays: THE LIONS FINALLY WON A GAME!

Happy Monday everybody! Here's a look at the games...

Detroit Lions 19 - Washington Redskins 14- So ends the Lions 19 straight losses. Is it really an upset if there were people picking the Lions to win? Is Jim Zorn on his way out of D.C.? What about Jason Campbell? Let's not ask questions about Washington. Instead, Detroit should take this chance to rejoice, enjoy the victory. After all, you already have one more win than last year. So here's to you Detroit; you may not make the playoffs or finish the season at .500, but you've already got a win under your belt.

New York Jets 24 - Tennessee Titans 17- THE JETS ARE 3-0...OMG!!! *Sarcasm* Which is the bigger surprise though, that the Jets are 3-0 or that the Titans are 0-3?

New Orleans Saints 27 - Buffalo Bills 7- How's Drew Brees suppose to break the pasing record if he only throws for 172 yards? I for one am indifferent!

Chicago Bears 25 - Seattle Seahawks 19- So the Bears are now 2-1, instead of 0-3. I am most certainly relieved. Jay Cutler came through when we needed him to late in the game. He's turning into a wise investment.

Cincinnati Bengals 23 - Pittsburgh Steelers 20- All of the sudden, at 2-1, this Bengals team is pretty damn good. If you take away the Brandon Stokely touchdown catch in week 1, the Bengals are easily 3-0 right now. And they were in the Loser Rankings a couple of weeks ago. They have Cleveland next. The Bengals could easily be 3-1 going to Baltimore.

SUNDAY NIGHT RECAP: Indianapolis Colts 31 - Arizona Cardinals 10- Peyton Manning had a four touchdown, 379 passing yards day...Oh and the Colts had the ball longer than 15 minutes.

The Mondays: Somebody is 0-2 and it's not the Bears!

Chicago Bears 17 - Pittsburgh Steelers 14- A Robbie Gould field goal kept the Bears from going 0-2. Am I happy? You bet I am! Oh and no interceptions for Jay Cutler.

Houston Texans 34 - Tennessee Titans 31- It was a four touchdown day for Texans quarterback Matt Schaub. This is not a good start for the Titans. They get the Jets in the Meadowlands this weekend. Could the Titans go 0-3? Who knows!

New York Jets 16 - New England Patriots 9- MARK SANCHEZ IS 2-0! The Jets fans rejoice! Oh and Tom Brady has lost his first regular season game since Dec. 14, 2006. Quite a long time for sure...

Minnesota Vikings 27 - Detroit Lions 13- So it's 19 straight losses now for the Lions. The magic number is 26.

New Orleans Saints 44 - Philadelphia Eagles 22- Three touchdown passes for Drew Brees. That's nine touchdown passes in two games.

SUNDAY NIGHT RECAP: New York Giants 33 - Dallas Cowboys 31- Awful day for the namesake. Romo threw three picks. Eli Manning played terrific. He threw for 330 yards and two touchdowns.

Monday Night Pick: Indy over Miami.

Tuesdays with Romo: Chargers get win number one

The San Diego Chargers picked up their first win of the season, after losing their first two games by a combined three points. The Chargers took care of the Jets, winning the game 48-29.

Phillip Rivers had another fine performance for the Chargers. Rivers had three touchdown passes and 250 yards on the night. Rivers counterpart for the night, this quarterback named Brett Favre, threw for 271 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Favre completed 30 of 42 on the night.

LaDainian Tomlinson ran for 67 yards and two touchdowns.

NFL Picks: Week 1

The 2008 NFL season starts today (at 1 p.m. ET to be exact). We've missed it and we're ready for more football action. Without further ado, time for my picks for week 1.

1. Philadelphia over St. Louis- The Eagles should be ready to go. Sure they don't have Kevin Curtis, but I can't see St. Louis winning on the road.
   
   
2. Jacksonville over Tennessee- Great division game to start the season. I know the Titans have done well against the Jags, but I think things should be different this time around.
   
   
3. New Orleans over Tampa Bay- This seems like a no-brainer to me because the Saints are a much better team than the Bucs. The Saints will be back in the saddle again, to quote Aerosmith.
   
   
4. New York (Jets) over Miami- Miami is coming off of a 1-15 season, need I say more?
   
   
5. Upset Pick: Houston over Pittsburgh- The Texans showed a lot of promise last season. This year could very well be their breakout year and it all starts in Pittsburgh.

NFL Preview Show Extravaganza: New York Jets

We continue our look at the AFC East. We focus on the New York Brett Favr.....I uhh mean the New York Jets.

Yes, I said Favre, after all he's a Jet. Hey, it does beat being a Shark, I suppose. Favre gives the Jets an answer to their quarterback question. It also proves that if you can't choose between Kellen Clemens and Chad Pennington, just go with a 38-year-old quarterback.

Favre provides stability, if only temporary. There's much concern over the rest of the offense. The Jets offensive line was the fourth worst in the NFL with giving up sacks. They gave up 53 for the regular season. Running back Thomas Jones also had some issues. He ran for 1100 yards, but scored a career worst one touchdown. Jones averaged 3.6 yards per carry in 2007, his worst output since his rookie season in 2000.

Wide receiver Jericho Cotchery had his breakout year in 2007, catching 82 balls for 1130 yards. However, Cotchery scored only four total touchdowns for the season.

Favre will only take the team as far as this offense will go. Ultimately, this offense's success will depend on the offensive line. Can free agent acquisition Alan Faneca provide stability to the line, or will Favre get sacked more times than a bag of potatoes.

The Jets open up the 2008 season on the road when they face the Miami Dolphins, who now hold the rights to Chad Pennington. At home, the Jets will face Cincy, Arizona, Denver at St. Louis. On the road, the Jets will face Oakland, Tennessee and San Francisco.

The Best of the Mondays: Week 1

I've finally decided to do this after months and months of promises. I'm doing the best of the Mondays, my own Monday morning analysis of the week's games. Today, we go back to week one of the 2007 regular season. I'll give my own analysis of my analysis. Sounds stupid, doesn't it? I'll have my present day thoughts in italics.

My oh my how the time passes. Tony Romo picked apart the eventual Super Bowl champions. Kevin Everett's career and life were uncertain after his injury during the kickoff against Denver. Also, the Patriots destroyed the Jets in their first game of the regular season. (NOTE: The whole Spygate controversy started the afternoon that this post was made). Enjoy the post kiddies and I'll see you on Hump Day.

• New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is certainly having fun with his new offensive weapons. His new three new wide receivers combined for 263 yards. Randy Moss led the team with 183 yards and one touchdown- Did Mangini get the last laugh?
  
  New York Jet fans were cheering Kellen Clemons as he came into the game, replacing injured Chad Pennington. What is up with that?- No it had to be the hoodie!
  
  How about that Ellis Hobbs, 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, longest in NFL History. Big props to Hobbs!- Woo, Ellis Hobbs!
  
  
• The Chicago Bears lost to the San Diego Chargers 14-3. I am disappointed. They held LaDainian Tomlinson to 25 yards on the ground. The Bears offense needs to improve, or heads will roll- The Chargers were up and down early on, but they stuck it out and made it to the AFC title game.
  
  
• A big congratulations goes out to Houston Texans defensive end, Mario Williams, scoring his first touchdown on a fumble recovery. Way to go man. By the way, the Texans defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 20-3- Who knew that the Texans would be a big surprise in the NFL that season? Not I!
  
  
• Condolensces go out to Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett, who is recovering from surgery this morning after a helmut-to-helmut collison left him unconscious. Hopefully, it is nothing serious, but definitely keep him in your thoughts and prayers- I'm glad he made it through and is now walking again.
  
  
• ROMO ALERT: Tony Romo shined on Sunday Night (is Football Night), throwing for 345 yards and four touchdowns. The Cowboys won the game 45-35. It was definitely a great way to end a great Sunday- A lot of questions came up in regards to the competency of the Giants. Hindsight now tells us differently.
  
  
• Monday Night Picks: I'm picking the Baltimore Ravens over the Cincinnati Bengals and the San Francisco 49ers over the Arizona Cardinals- I went 1-1 on that night in case you forgot
  

The Mondays: Leinart right deck for Cards

Happy Monday! It's the first Monday in June and I am still stoked about last night's WEC event.

Leinart the starter in Arizona- It looks like Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has made a decision to stick with Matty Leinart at the quarterback spot. According to reports, it seems that Leinart has been working hard this offseason to prove that he will be the Cards quarterback in 2008- Arizona Republic

Mangini's feeling the heat of the summer- As I always say (yeah right), if you can't stand the heat, get out of the oven. Well from the looks of it, Mangini is in the oven now. With the Giants winning a Super Bowl and the Jets coming off a 4-12 season, you can bet that Mangini's feeling the heat. If things don't go well for the J-E-T-S, then the Mangini might get C-A-N-N-E-D! I love spelling words- New York Post

Tyree catch doesn't haunt Harrison- Does everybody remember that David Tyree catch in the Super Bowl? Rodney Harrison certainly remembers that catch and he's moved on from that moment. In that type of situation, all you can do is move on. Will fans bring it up? They might do that, but it's not like it was a Scott Norwood moment. Friday Briefs: Rhodes highest paid Safety in NFL

Happy Friday to all! It's the end of the week and I am back in business, baby! It's game time!

Rhodes signs 33.5 million extension from Jets- New York safety Kerry Rhodes signed a 5-year $33.5 million dollar extension on Thursday, making him the highest paid safety in the league. In three seasons with the Jets, Rhodes has recorded 213 tackles, eight sacks and 10 interceptions- New York Times

Another Bears linebacker wanting money situation???- The Bears are $16 million under the salary cap and Brian Urlacher wants a new contract. Urlacher didn't show up for the start of voluntary work outs. He's making close to $4 million this season (just like last season) and he is signed through 2011. A training camp holdout seems unlikely. This is certainly not the last you'll hear of the Urlacher contract situation- Chicago Tribune

Hobson signs with Patriots- Former Jet linebacker Victor Hobson signed a one year contract with the New England Patriots on Monday. Hobson had 48 tackles for the Jets last season- New York Daily News

Happy Friday everybody. It's been a long week and I have a fight event to go and cover tomorrow night. I'm very excited about the event, even more excited than my homecoming. It's kind of sad when you think about it.

The Monday's: Tom Brady's Been Playing Madden Again

What an exciting NFL Sunday it was. It wasn't all that exciting for my picks though, I went 3-2. Sure some people might accept that , but I refuse to lose. On with my points from yesterday's games.

Tuesday's with Romo: The New York Jets

We've come down with the J-E-T-S.....JETS.....JETS.....JETS....fever here at Oh No Romo! So, let's do a preview on the Jets.

The Jets finished the season 10-6, clinching a Wild Card spot. They lost to the New England Patriots in the Wild Card Round.

In the 2007 NFL Draft, the Jets selected Pittsburgh CB Darrelle Revis in the first round. They open up the regular season at home against the same team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year, the Patriots.

The Jets will also face the Redskins, the Eagles and the Browns at home. On the road, they'll face the Giants (which could be considered a home game), the Bengals and the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
