Oakland Raiders 27 - Pittsburgh Steelers 24...

So two of the three gatekeepers in the AFC are on a combined six game losing streak (Steelers-4, Patriots-2). The Patriots have one win on the road (should be technically a neutral site since the game was in London). The Patriots need to win on the road.

The Steelers couldn't beat Bruce Gradkowski. They haven't won since the Monday night game in Denver. Things just look awful for Pittsburgh. The Steelers need to win on Thursday night against Cleveland. No if' and's or but's.

New York Giants 31 - Dallas Cowboys 24- ROMO ALERT: It's December! The namesake threw the ball 55 times on Sunday. He completed 41 passes for 391 yards and three touchdowns. So this loss falls on the Cowboys. Could this be the start of something bad for the Boys.

New Orleans Saints 33 - Washington Redskins 30- The Saints just don't like the idea of losing. They're an unstoppable force. I still think they have a stumble at some point.

Philadelphia Eagles 34 - Atlanta Falcons 7- The Falcons are in desperation mode at this point. They need to win out to even consider a wild card spot.

Seattle Seahawks 20 - San Francisco 17- Alex Smith has a great game. But the Seahawks are tied for second in the West with the win Sunday. The Niners are now three games back of the Cardinals in the NFC West.

SUNDAY NIGHT RECAP: Arizona Cardinals 30 - Minnesota Vikings 17- The Cards need two wins to clinch the NFC West. They get San Francisco, Detroit and St. Louis in the next three games. I think they can do it. They can clinch back-to-back division titles for the first time...ever!

MONDAY NIGHT PREDICTION: Green Bay over Baltimore

Tuesdays with Romo: The air is very thin

Pittsburgh Steelers 28 - Denver Broncos 10- This was a statement game for the Steelers. They're on the road against a pretty tough opponent in a place where it's hard to breathe, plus the Steelers are injury plagued. They struck hard though.

Ben Roethlisberger threw three touchdown passes in the win. Big credit though to Tyrone Carter for returning a 48-yard interception for a touchdown. Carter gets the Oh No Romo Player of the Game. For his efforts, he gets a free pair of argyle socks.

The Steelers are playing well, winning four straight. They get another shot at Cincy on Sunday. It's at home and they have a good shot. A win over the Bengals puts the Steelers back in the drivers seat in the AFC North. We'll see what happens.

As for the Broncos, well now they only have a one game lead over the Chargers. A win on Sunday will keep them ahead of San Diego, at least until the two encounter each other the week after.

The Mondays: I like leading with Favre losing

Pittsburgh Steelers 27 - Minnesota Vikings 17- This was probably the only good day for me. The Steelers defense came through big with two turnover touchdowns. Keyaron Fox scored the touchdown to put the Vikings away for good. Like I said, only happy part of day for yours truly.

Cincinnati Bengals 45 - Chicago Bears 10- This was such a painful day for me. Cedric Benson got his revenge. So now the Bears are at 3-3. The Bengals are 5-2. Such a crazy world. That said, I think it's time to get rid of Ron Turner.

Indianapolis Colts 42 - St. Louis Rams 6- The Colts are undefeated, the Rams haven't won a game.

New England Patriots 35 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7- Really New England? Only 35 points? I was expecting 60 out of you guys.

New Orleans Saints 46 - Miami Dolphins 34- My pick went right for the first three quarters. Sure enough, everything would fall apart. A 22-point fourth quarter got New Orleans to 6-0. The Saints proved that they can be a true contender in the NFC.

Dallas Cowboys 37 - Atlanta Falcons 21- ROMO ALERT: The namesake completed 21-of-29 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns.

SUNDAY NIGHT RECAP: Arizona Cardinals 24 - New York Giants 17- Cheer up Giants fans, at least the Yankees are in the World Series.

MONDAY NIGHT PREDICTION: Philly over Washington D.C.

The Mondays: My Birthday Post

HAPPY 22nd BIRTHDAY TO ME!

Okay, now that I got that out of the way. Here's what happened on Sunday:

Chicago Bears 48 - Detroit Lions 24- What better birthday gift could there be than a Bears victory? (For me at least)

Denver Broncos 17 - Dallas Cowboys 10- ROMO ALERT: Our namesake got sacked five times in yesterday's game. It's surprising to see the Broncos at 4-0 on the season. Can they finish the job though?

Cincinnati Bengals 23 - Cleveland Browns 20- This game was seconds away from being a tie.

Jacksonville Jaguars 37 - Tennessee Titans 17- Panic in the streets for Nashville? Not since 1983 have the Titans/Oilers started a season 0-4. And that was when they had Earl Campbell (granted near the end of his career). The Oilers that season went 2-14. I think the Titans will win more than two games, but 5-11 is starting to sound like a real possibility.

Miami Dolphins 38 - Buffalo Bills 10- I think I should have put the Bills in the Aztec Tomb...Chad Henne had an uneventful game. Instead, the props go to Ronnie Brown, who ran for two touchdowns.

New Orleans 24 - New York Jets 10- Are the Saints for real? At 4-0 it sounds like a real possibility. Anytime defense can score for you, it's always a good sign that you're a legit team on both sides of the ball. As for the Jets, well...you knew they had to lose at some point.

SUNDAY NIGHT RECAP: Pittsburgh Steelers 38 - San Diego Chargers 28- So the Steelers led 28-7 at the end of the third quarter. They should have this in the bag, right? Well, they didn't. A Jacob Hester returned a fumble for a touchdown, then Philip Rivers threw two touchdown passes to get the Chargers within seven points of the Steelers. Jeff Reed came through when needed though and put the Steelers ahead by 10 late.

Are the Steelers in trouble? They did get the win. They get Detroit next week. We'll see what happens. As for San Diego, they got close, but not close enough. Still, can we expect the Broncos to really hold on to that lead in the AFC West? The Chargers have a bye this week, but they get their first crack at Denver the week after.

MONDAY NIGHT PREDICTION: Honestly, I'm hoping for a 0-0 tie, but I know that will never happen. So, Packers 24- Vikings 23.

The Mondays: Somebody is 0-2 and it's not the Bears!

Chicago Bears 17 - Pittsburgh Steelers 14- A Robbie Gould field goal kept the Bears from going 0-2. Am I happy? You bet I am! Oh and no interceptions for Jay Cutler.

Houston Texans 34 - Tennessee Titans 31- It was a four touchdown day for Texans quarterback Matt Schaub. This is not a good start for the Titans. They get the Jets in the Meadowlands this weekend. Could the Titans go 0-3? Who knows!

New York Jets 16 - New England Patriots 9- MARK SANCHEZ IS 2-0! The Jets fans rejoice! Oh and Tom Brady has lost his first regular season game since Dec. 14, 2006. Quite a long time for sure...

Minnesota Vikings 27 - Detroit Lions 13- So it's 19 straight losses now for the Lions. The magic number is 26.

New Orleans Saints 44 - Philadelphia Eagles 22- Three touchdown passes for Drew Brees. That's nine touchdown passes in two games.

SUNDAY NIGHT RECAP: New York Giants 33 - Dallas Cowboys 31- Awful day for the namesake. Romo threw three picks. Eli Manning played terrific. He threw for 330 yards and two touchdowns.

Monday Night Pick: Indy over Miami.

NFL Preview Show Extravaganza: Pittsburgh Steelers

It seems only fitting that we start out our third season of this wonderful preview with the defending Super Bowl champions. The Steelers had a pretty good season in 2008 (Duh!). They finished the regular season 12-4 and won six of their final seven games. During that stretch, they defeated the Patriots, Chargers, Cowboys and a close one against the Ravens. Their only loss during the stretch came against the Titans.

In the playoffs, the Steelers utilized their second seed in the AFC very well, defeating both the Chargers and the Ravens to advance to their second Super Bowl in three seasons.

The Steelers and the Cardinals dueled in the 43rd edition of the Super Bowl. The game saw such classic moments as the 100-yard interception return for a touchdown by James Harrison before the end of the first half, as well as the game winning touchdown reception by Santonio Holmes. In the end, it was another title for Steel Town.

But 2008 is gone, like Pontiac. It is now time for the 2009 season. The big question will be, can the Steelers repeat? I can't make that prediction and will not make any attempt to. I also won't make any type of analysis into the Ben Roethlisberger allegations. I'm not a legal expert in that category, so I won't delve into something that is completely out of my league.

Now it is time for the burnin' questions. Yes, of course it is yearbook style questions!

My Super Bowl Pick

I hope you enjoyed my time away from the blog. I figured I would come back and give my final thoughts on the big game.

Why did I take the break, you might be asking...? I feel like there are people out there who can analyze, and to an extent overanalyze, the game on Sunday better than I can. So why hear what I have to say?

Is Kurt Warner a hall of famer? No, he is not a hall of famer. I'm not saying he's a bad player, but to get into Canton is to be among a Parthenon of Gods. I don't think Warner is at that level. It doesn't seem like that long ago, he fell off the face of the earth. He was replaced by a back-up in St. Louis and held down the fort until Eli Manning took the position in New York. Soon enough, the Cardinals will have to choose between Warner and former first round pick, Matt Leinart. I can't imagine Warner has much left in the gas tank.

I think Ben Roethlisberger is a good quarterback. He's not quite a hall of famer, though. Don't you try to play this bias on me. He's a tough guy, even if he is an awkward of a runner and gets hit too much.

This won't be a high scoring game. Don't fool yourself into thinking that is the case.

My pick: Steelers 17 - Cardinals 13

AFC Title Preview: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens

Who would have thought that two division teams would battle it out for the right to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl?

These two teams know each other very well and have beaten each other up as well.

This season, the Steelers and Ravens first faced each other on Monday night in week four. The game was a battle of the defenses. However, the running game was also a factor when Le'Ron McClain ran in a 2-yard touchdown with about four minutes left in the fourth quarter to tie the game.

The game would go to overtime and the Steelers won it on a 46-yard field goal by kicker Jeff Reed. The final score was 23-20.

Game two of this season series took place in week 15. Once again, defense was a factor, except there weren't as many points scored in this game.

The only touchdown in the game came with 43 seconds left in the fourth quarter when quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw a 4-yard pass to wide receiver Santonio Holmes to give the Steelers the lead and the game.

I don't know if it was a touchdown or not. It's in the past and both teams are in the playoffs. The Ravens have a shot but who knows.

I'm going bold here and picking the Ravens to win, even with the injuries. This game will be another close one.

Saturday Games:

Baltimore Ravens 13 - Tennessee Titans 10- This game was just flat out sloppy. The Ravens weren't doing much on offense and the Titans kept turning over the ball. If the Titans get just one turnover, this game ends differently. Joe Flacco played smart football on Saturday. He has a chance to get this team to the Super Bowl.

Arizona Cardinals 33 - Carolina Panthers 13- The Cardinals just mauled the Panthers, which seems like a contradiction. The Panthers kept turning over the ball. No doubt, the Cardinals came ready to play.

Sunday Games:

Philadelphia Eagles 23 - New York Giants 11- This was a tough NFC East battle. The Eagles really brought it to the Giants on Sunday. The Eagles are soaring right now. They always seem to have this ability to play hard late in the season. Now, it's carrying over for the Eagles.

Pittsburgh Steelers 35 - San Diego Chargers 24- The Steelers decided to stop the San Diego train in Heinz Field. Philip Rivers still had a three touchdown day for the Chargers, but Darren Sproles was held to 15 yards rushing.

The Division Showdown: San Diego Chargers at Pittsburgh Steelers

San Diego Chargers at Pittsburgh Steelers- 4:45 PM ET on CBS

So it's on, the Chargers go back to Pittsburgh to face those Steelers. This is a rematch from week 11 of the season, when the Steelers won a close 11-10 game. Personally, I can't see this game finishing with that score.

The Chargers appeared to be out of the playoff hunt. They were 4-8 and had nothing to look forward to. However, the Chargers won four straight games, while the Broncos collapsed, thus leading to the Chargers getting into the playoffs at 8-8. Last week, the Chargers defeated the Colts in the Wild Card round to advance on and face the Steelers.

The key in this game for the Chargers is Philip Rivers. He has really shown a lot of promise as the Chargers quarterback. Rivers had a career year in 2008, throwing for 4009 yards and 34 touchdowns. Rivers had a quiet game against the Colts, but his task will be tougher against this Steelers defense.

This of course leads me to discuss the Steelers defense as the key for Pittsburgh. The Steelers D, led by James Harrison and Troy Polamalu, were the top dogs in the NFL this season. They are ranked first in points and yards. To say that they are just very good is an insult to Steelers fans everywhere. The Steelers D is the class of the NFL. All arguments about best defense stops in Pittsburgh.

Pick: I'm picking the Steelers and here's why...As of right now, LaDainian Tomlinson is doubtful for Sunday's game. Darren Sproles is a good player, but I can't see him doing very well against that Steelers D. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger should be feeling better and connecting with Hines Ward and Heath Miller. Willie Parker and Mewelde Moore will be vital in the running game for the Steelers. The Steelers will be firing on all cylinders Sunday.

Tuesdays with Romo: Steelers edge Ravens in OT

Another Monday night, another crazy game has come and left us. This was a battle that came down to a Jeff Reed 46-yard field goal in overtime made the difference as the Steelers defeated the Ravens 23-20.

Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco showed promise in his Monday Night Football debut, passing for 192 yards and one touchdown.

The game saw starting running backs for both sides get knocked out of the game. Ravens running back Le'Ron McClain led all rushers with 63 yards on 16 carries with one touchdown.

The Ravens did an excellent job staying with the Steelers, but Pittsburgh pulled through when they needed to.

The Steelers were down 13-3 with less than five minutes to go in the third quarter when a Ben Roethlisberger pass to Santonio Holmes went for a touchdown. Fifteen seconds later, LaMarr Woodley recovered a fumble and returned it seven yards for a touchdown.

Roethlisberger threw for one touchdown and 192 yards.

The Mondays: Happy Jeff Pearlman Book Release Day

Ahh yes, it is another Monday. I'd like to send a friendly reminder to all of you bookworms out there that the new Jeff Pearlman book, Boys Will Be Boys, is being released (UPDATED, depends where I guess) tomorrow. Make sure you pick up your copy today, or tomorrow, or next week. Eventually I guess. Enough with the awkwardness, let's talk football!

Denver Broncos 39 - San Diego Chargers 38- Have you ever wanted to go for two points to win the game? Mike Shanahan did! The Broncos two pointer late in the game made the difference as they defeated the Chargers. Jay Cutler is starting to grow into a very good quarterback. He threw for 350 yards on Sunday, with four touchdowns. Phillip Rivers had a good game for the Chargers, throwing for 377 yards and three touchdowns.

Indianapolis Colts 18 - Minnesota Vikings 15- One of these two teams was going to finish Sunday with an 0-2 record. Peyton Manning wasn't about to allow that to happen. The Colts scored 18 unanswered points to beat the Vikings. Adam Vinatieri kicked a 47-yarder in the final seconds to clinch the game for the Colts. The Vikings did a good job shutting down the running game, giving up only 25 yards rushing. The Vikings could very well have won this game, but they didn't score any touchdowns, which hurt them in the long run. You can't win games only scoring field goals, especially against the Colts.

Oakland Raiders 23 - Kansas City Chiefs 8- In what could be Lane Kiffen's last game, the Raiders had their finest showing yet in the young coach's second season. Darren McFadden had 164 rushing yards on the day. He had one touchdown.

Sunday Night Recap: Pittsburgh Steelers 10 - Cleveland Browns 6- To be fair, it was very windy. Neither side was going to get the job done passing, even though Roethlisberger threw a touchdown pass. Willie Parker was able to run the ball better than Jamal Lewis did. Lewis has not been able to turn on the jets. He has only 62 yards rushing in two games this season.

Monday Night Prediction: Dallas edges out Philly 24-20

NFL Picks: Week 1

The 2008 NFL season starts today (at 1 p.m. ET to be exact). We've missed it and we're ready for more football action. Without further ado, time for my picks for week 1.

1. Philadelphia over St. Louis- The Eagles should be ready to go. Sure they don't have Kevin Curtis, but I can't see St. Louis winning on the road.
   
   
2. Jacksonville over Tennessee- Great division game to start the season. I know the Titans have done well against the Jags, but I think things should be different this time around.
   
   
3. New Orleans over Tampa Bay- This seems like a no-brainer to me because the Saints are a much better team than the Bucs. The Saints will be back in the saddle again, to quote Aerosmith.
   
   
4. New York (Jets) over Miami- Miami is coming off of a 1-15 season, need I say more?
   
   
5. Upset Pick: Houston over Pittsburgh- The Texans showed a lot of promise last season. This year could very well be their breakout year and it all starts in Pittsburgh.

NFL Preview Show Extravaganza: Pittsburgh Steelers

Our preview extravaganza takes us to Pittsburgh as we take a look at the defending AFC North champions, the Steelers.

What is there to say about the Steelers that hasn't already been said. They have a good team from bottom to top. They have a good quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger. They have a good running back in Willie Parker (until he got hurt).

They have good receivers in Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes. They also have a good defense led by Troy Polamalu. The Steelers also have a good young coach in Mike Tomlin.

The Steelers biggest problem is that they are good. In the AFC, good is not good enough to run the gauntlet. You have to be at that elite level with the likes of the Patriots and Colts. An elite team doesn't lose to Jacksonville twice at home, especially if the weather gives the elite team an advantage.

The Steelers have quite a ways to go before they can be in that class with the Patriots and Colts.

The Steelers open the 2008 season at home when they take on the Houston Texans. At home, the Steelers will face such notables as New York, Indy, San Diego and Dallas. On the road, the Steelers will face New England, Washington and Jacksonville.

Hump Day: Keeping the Schedule Thing Alive, Baby!

Just when you thought it was safe to come out of your home, Oh No Romo continues its look at the 2008 NFL Season. Yes, I did take a week off from the preview. Now with the NFL Draft over, I can give a better preview. I preview three games from each week However, I am back and today I will cover weeks seven and eight.

Week 7- Oct. 19- Oct. 20

Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs- Two potentially playoff teams go at it in this midseason game. If Larry Johnson is healthy, if Brodie Croyle is good, if the Chiefs are good, this will be a good game- 1 PM ET on CBS

Indianapolis Colts at Green Bay Packers- Two quarterbacks going face-to-face. It's Peyton Manning against Brett Favre's replacement, Aaron Rodgers. That's assuming that Favre is still retired by then- 4:15 PM ET on CBS

Seattle Seahawks at Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Matt Hasselbeck vs. Whoever the quarterback is for the Bucs at that time- 8:15 PM ET on NBC

Week 8- Oct. 26 & 27

San Diego Chargers at New Orleans Saints- Live from London- 1 PM ET on CBS

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Dallas Cowboys- The Tampa Defense heads to Texas Stadium to take on Tony Romo and the Cowboys. Two teams enter, one walks out- 1 PM ET on FOX

We have Eli Manning vs. Ben Roethlisberger, Willie Parker vs. *Insert Giants Running Back Here*, Plaxico Burress vs. His Former Team. This is a potential game of the week. I'm giddy just thinking about it- 4:15 PM ET on FOX

Oh No Romo

Hump Day: THE NEW SCHEDULES ARE HERE, THE NEW SCHEDULES ARE HERE!!!!!!

This is the happiest day of the year here at Oh No Romo! It is the day that the schedule for the 2008 NFL season comes out. I am ecstatic and thrilled.

Instead of posting the entire schedule here, I'll give you three games to watch for each week of the year. That would be a total of 51 games to watch for this season. I'll do the first two weeks today. Then the next two weeks will be on Friday and I'll continue from there.

Week 1

Washington Redskins at New York Giants- The Super Bowl champs open at home against a division foe- September 4 on NBC at 7 PM ET

Houston Texans at Pittsburgh Steelers- A tough test for the Texans on the road. A win at Heinz Field would be a great way to kick of the Texans season- September 7 on CBS at 1 PM ET

Dallas Cowboys at Cleveland Browns- The Browns open their 2008 campaign at home against the defending NFC East champion Cowboys. It's a great early test for both teams and we'll see who starts the season 1-0- September 7 on FOX at 4:15 PM ET

Week 2

Buffalo Bills at Jacksonville Jaguars- This should be a classic- September 14 on CBS at 1 PM ET

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns- Two AFC North foes are going at it on Sunday Night Football. My how sweet it is! - September 14 on NBC at 8:15 PM ET

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys- Two NFC East rivals going at it on Monday Night. Let the Romo Love Fest begin.

The Mondays: Doing what I do best...What do I do best?

Happy Monday to everybody in the world of frilly things and weird stuff. We need to do a recap of an entire Sunday worth of football action. Can we do that? Pretty please!?!?!

• Rams pick up first win of the season, shock the Saints- I really wanted to pick the Rams to win this weekend and I didn't. Now, I look like a moron (I already did). Heck, Steven Jackson had a touchdown pass in the game. Congratulations to the Rams for their first win.

Last Sunday, I went 2-3 *keeps head down* and now I am 20-14 this season. I could use a little luck on my picks. What am I picking for this week?

• Tampa Bay Buccaneers over Jacksonville Jaguars- I picked the Jags before I picked against them. With David Garrard out, I think the Bucs have a better shot.
  


• New York Giants over Miami Dolphins- I feel bad for the city of London, they get to deal with Tony Siragusa.
  


• Pittsburgh Steelers over Cincinnati Bengals- Cheer up Cincy fans, at least Chris Henry can practice.
  


• Chicago Bears over Detroit Lions- The Lions D are about to get Griese'D (Made that up)
  


• A DOUBLE UPSET SPECIAL: Washington Redskins over New England Patriots AND Carolina Panthers over Indianapolis Colts- This may just be my stupidest picks yet.

The Monday's: INSERT TITLE HERE

Week five has mostly left us. With the exception of the Monday Night Football game, taking place later on tonight, it's safe to assume that the week is over.

Time for some thoughts on Week 5:

• Chicago Bears defeated the Green Bay Packers, 27-20- Wow, I'm a Bears fan and I never saw it coming. Brian Griese, who looks like Mr. Roper from 'Enter the Dragon', had two touchdown passes.
  
  The Bears needed this win and they certainly went into Lambeau Field and got the job done. Cornerback Charles Tillman forced two fumbles, which helped the Bears get back into the game.
  
  Also, Brett Favre tied (not passed like previously mentioned) George Blanda for most interceptions All-Time. A big congratulations to him.
  
• Washington Redskins blow out the Detroit Lions, 34-3- What a great game for Jason Campbell, 23 of 29, 248 yards and two touchdowns. Plus check out this video from yesterday's game.
  
  As for Detroit, their offense shut down faster than a power outage at a Dave Matthews Band concert. They had 11 first downs and 144 total net yards. Quarterback Jon Kitna threw two picks. Like I said on Friday, I'm still not sold on the Lions.
  
• Houston Texans defeat the Miami Dolphins on a last second field goal by Kris Brown, 22-19- Great game for Ronnie Brown, 114 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown.
  
  The Texans scored only one touchdown. Brown had five field goals and that includes the 57-yarder that he kicked with one second left.
  
  The bigger story is the fact that the Dolphins are 0-5 and their quarterback Trent Green got knocked out of the game. The good news is that he's ok.
  
• Pittsburgh Steelers shut out the Seattle Seahawks, 21-0- Great work for the Steelers, I did call this game.
  
• New York Giants defeated New York Jets, 35-24- Did the Giants win, or did the Jets lose?
  
• San Diego destroyed the Denver Broncos, 41-3- Ooooh, that looks like it hurt.
